The Traveling Diaries No.11

"Fashion Schools in Firenze"
by Angelic Roman

Two years ago when I was fresh out of high school I couldn't wait to explore the world. The plan was to eventually study abroad and get to know the cities in which I might one day live. Now I am finally here & getting to know the fashion schools and the programs they have has been enthralling. So let me break it down with short summaries of what I have found.

Istituto Europeo di Design (IED)

IED was started in 1966 & today boast campuses all over Italy (including Rome), two in Spain, and one in Brazil.  They offer courses both in English & Italian. Their Fashion programs include fashion design, shoe & accessory design, and fashion communication. They have study abroad programs, year-long programs, and summer programs as well. They also provide good resources for international scholarships, but only allow scholarships to pay up to 50% of the tuition.

You can read more about their programs, see costs, etc on their website.

POLIMODA

Polimoda is a prestigious fashion institute. It is a great option for people who are already in the industry as the school has very great networking opportunities and current fashion industry resources. Their classes are taught in English and Italian, depending on the course. They have a wonderful fashion business program, shoe and accessory design program, and fashion writing program. Scholarship information is regularly updated on their website, though all scholarships seem to be offered through outside sources.

ACCADEMIA ITALIANA

Accademia Italiana was started in 1984 and is today a wonderful fashion university with campuses in both Florence & Rome. They offer classes in English as well. They pride themselves on being the first fashion university to operate on an international level. They also have Bachelors and Masters programs ringing from fashion design to photography and many other courses. Tuition comes to about 8,000 Euro per year and I could not find scholarship information on their web page.
