The Traveling Diaries No.18

"To Infinity & Beyond"

Today as I was walking down a narrow street with one of my roommates we encountered this gem of a boutique. We met one of the owners, Jane, and got to take a look at her workshop and find out about their awesome story. And this is why I love Florence.

Jane is originally from Masachussets, she met her husband Eugenio and shortly thereafter moved to Italy. They have been in this location for 25 years ( Apostoli 18r). All of their products are made by hand in their workshop behind the shop. Jane told me that their leathers can come from all over the world, but they source theirs mostly from the Tuscan region. They started with belts and have since expanded into handbags and other beautiful leather works.

Jane also let me in on some key facts about leather, apparently the outer skin or layer of a hide is the strongest, it is called full-grain. Infinity leather works prides itself on using this layer to produce high quality products as opposed to other companies who source lower quality resources. Another tip in differentiating the quality of leather is to ask your vendor to hold a match up to the leather, good leather will not burn, but vinyl will.

You can read more about them on their website.
